I haven't bought a new winter coat since before I was married. I had a black classic, long wool coat that I loved and kept getting re-lined. When I say long, I am not joking: it goes nearly to my ankles. It nips in at the waist and swirls just slightly as I walk to give a peek to the scarlet satin lining underneath. It was a perfect office coat and great for evenings out but it's terrible as a playground coat. I have been able to skate by (either with a maternity coat or borrowing from my helpful sister) but it's time I address the situation. Since my birthday is just around the corner, I decided this would be my big present this year. I have been combing the websites in search of the perfect winter jacket. I am going to admit straight out that it will break my "less than $100" rule. I plan to wear this jacket for a long time so I want something stylish but warm that is also kid-friendly. I saw an amazing jacket from Moncler on the street that I adore but it was well over $1000 - totally out of reach! Then I came across Soia & Kyo. This designer's coats are unique with interesting details -- and they look warm. This one is my top choice right now. It's $275 so not cheap, but not completely outrageous either. On a cost per wear basis, I figure this is potentially doable. I found a runner-up from them on Bluefly.com that it slightly cheaper that might work as well.
All this to say, please weigh in and let me know your thoughts. Is it too unusual to wear multiple seasons? Do you have have any other suggestions?
